win2k - long delay when connecting external USB drive

Posted: 01-21-2004, 12:33 AM
I have a Western Digital 120GB external USB drive. There seems to be a long delay (about a
minute or two) when connecting the drive to my box running windows 2000.
This does not happen when connecting the same drive to computers running
windows 98 or linux. Granted, all of these computers have USB 1.1, so
I expect slow file transfers, but neither windows 98 or linux experience
this initial delay. Is windows 2k indexing every file on the drive? If
it is, how do I disable this for that drive? Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

You mention Win2k, Win98 and linux, Why the hell are you posting this to a
Windows XP news group? Post it to one of the other three!

Whoops, I clicked on the wrong newsgroup when posting. My apologies.
