I recently re-installed XP Home on a PC on my home
network. the install went fine and the machine has
operated in a stable fashion for the last 60 days. Then
last week I ran the auto update as there were a number of
security patches in the queue.
Now, when booted, and at intermittent times, Windows will
pop up a dialog saying that some of the original files
have been overwritten and asking me to put in the
original CD to repair Windows. Clearly it does not
recognize the updates. Although I get the option to
decline, I would prefer to have Windows recognize its own
auto update or know if there is an issue.
The machine is running XP Home, Office, Norton AntiVirus
and Firewall (all licensed) - and that is all. This
began immediately after the auto-update was run.
How do I get Windows to stop asking for a repair?
Thanks in advance...
