Look at the item entitled: Windows Defender, Vista and the 0x80240029. Look
at the response by Rich Hutchins.
The item that consistently made the difference for me was not only doing
what Rich describes but further NOT checking for updates for other Microsoft
products. If I checked that, then I continued to get the Windows Defender
error.
