and updates?

Windows Defender is good at what it is designed for. It is not an anti-virus
program. It is free.

Instead of Norton or McAfee, if you are a home user, I suggest that you use
the Free AVG Anti-Virus/Anti-spyware. http://tinyurl.com/4mw3vt Or Avast:

Defender is known for its "doesn't catch shit" technology

its a piece of crap its better off disabled and use spybot or malwarebytes

Its a software that they bought from another company, im amazed its
still in windows7

I hope they remove it when it goes RTM

It's a reasonably good bit of software, although there are better
(perhaps SuperAntiSpyware and a few others). There's no harm in using
it though.

It isn't an anti-virus so you will still need to get some good AV
software (Anti-Vir is free and rates well).
