System:
Vista Ultimate, X2 4400+, 3GB DDR RAM, MSI 7125 mainboard, nForce4 chipset.
Recently, Windows Defender has been notifying me that its definitions are
out of date. The problem is that when I attempt to update, it states that
there are no updates available, but the task bar tray nag remains.
I also noticed that the last restart, after post, there was a Registry path
displayed across the screen. I grabbed a camera to capture it, but was too
late. I've not seem this before, but Vista updated itself just before
starting windows, so I assume this could be part of that process and may not
be related.
Any ideas on why Windows Defender thinks its definitions are out of date? I
wonder if some rogue program has disabled it somehow? I'm very careful with
my systems, but this has me scratching my head.
Thanks for any info,
James
