Windows Easy Transfer Recovery

OK, I used the WET tool to save my current settings on my laptop pre-Vista
installation. I saved them on a network folder however the folder name it
saved the setting under was rather strange, 'UST2MC.UNC'. It contains 2
files, 'IMG00001.DAT' & 'status'. My question is how do I now migrate or
transfer these settings from the network folder to the laptop, now running
under Vista?

RDU

It should be easy enough, just start the WET on the Vista laptop and go
through the steps in the wizard. At some point it will ask where the files
are located and you can point it to the files on the network folder. If you
have any sharing problems, you can also move those files to a USB Flash
Drive and access them from there.

How exactly did you run Windows Easy Transfer on your XP
installation?

The files you mention are those created when you run the File
and Settings Transfer wizard that's installed on Windows XP.
The few times I've run Vista's Windows Easy Transfer tool it's
created
a folder named from_old_computer which contained a single file
named SaveData.mig. It sounds like you ran XP's FAST wizard,
not Vista's WET

I'm no Vista expert, but I don't think you're going to be able
to use those files with WET. You may end up having to reinstall
XP on your laptop and run the FAST wizard to restore your files
and settings to that installation. You could then use your
Vista DVD to run Windows Easy Transfer this time. Also, I would
never rely on either the FAST wizard or WET as my sole backup
source. If you value your files, backup the actual files before
upgrading to Vista.

Good luck
