Windows Explorer crashes daily

Posted: 11-13-2003, 07:46 PM
Hello,

I've a network of 3 PCs here, all running Windows XP Pro.
Two of these machines are 1 year old.
I'm running updates regularily.

Now, on every machine Windows Explorer crashes quite daily.
It crashes when opening a file, opening a mail, connecting to a network
drive, etc.

I'm used to this phenomenon now since about one year.
It's a nuisance, especially because icons in the system tray get lost.

I always thought it is because there is "too much software" installed; but
recently I setup a machine from scratch, and the same problem appeared.

So this can't be normal! Or is it!?

Anyone else does know this problem; and, even better, has an idea what to
do?

Thanks in advance

Please provide us with the hardware configurations of the PCs.

Are each PC running XP with all the service packs/patches install?

Have you updated the mothboard chipset drivers?

Y.

Is there one piece of software that you have installed on all the machines?
The prob has to be with something your installing or doing to all the
machines, cause that is not normal xp behaviour.

George,

I think a malware check would be a good place to start. Get Spybot
S&D and HijackThis, with expert advice from SWI Forums. Start with
this article:

If all 3 machines are also connected to the internet, and you have not
installed virus protection, you may have the Blaster virus.
check out other messages in this forum, or go to Microsoft's or
Symantec's support websites and check out their fixes.
You need an antivirus, as well as a firewall installed.
