Windows Explorer Explorer.exe registry problem?

100% activity any time I double click on a folder or try
to open any folder of any kind, like My Computer or
Control Panel. The task manager reports that explorer.exe
is using 99% of the cpu, and the only way to recover my
pc is to close explorer.exe and re-open it as a new task.
Norton Antivirus is up to-date, as always and so are all
my spyware and adware protection, although I have tried
cleaning the pc out anyway. No Virus's found but of
course I found plenty of Spyware and Adware and have
removed them via SpyBot S&D, which is updated daily like
Norton. Symantec, McAfee online scans everything. I still
cannot open any folders without using internet explorer
and not regular windows explorer. Programs are fine.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing
Explorer.exe to be giving my cpu a battering and cause me
from accessing folders by double clicking? Possibly the
registry? My guess is that some program or virus has just
changed a registry entry for how explorer runs and where
it gets its instructions and knows where its going. It
must have something to do with opening folders.
