Windows File Protection

Posted: 08-08-2003, 11:59 PM
I get the following message every 2 minutes:
"Files that are required for Windows to run properly are
unrecognized versions. To maintain stability, Windows
must restore original versions of these files."
"Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 CD
now."

I insert my Windows XP upgrade CD (from Win 98)and am told
it is the wrong CD.

Help! I don't know what to do next.
Thanks!

Try pointing it to the C:\i386 folder, if it exists. If that isn't
accepted, point it at the C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 folder. If
that doesn't work, run "sfc /scannow" from a command prompt -- it might
work properly.

i have run sfc /scanow and the event log suggests that i need certain dll
files copying from the cd for windows to run properly.

unfortunately i have a windows xp cd but my sp1 cd is one i created myself
by interleaving the two versions of xp (home and sp1). it appears that the
cd has a bad block and the files cannot be copied.

is there anyway i can download the missing files?

files for myself there.

Sorry I don't have the name of the site anymore.. It should be asy to find.

is there anyway to run sfc from hard drive? i have the i386 folder copied to
the root of my c: drive and i wondered if there was anyway of making sfc
check files against this rather thatn the installation disk. the reason for
this is that the cd is scratched and keeps coming up with read errors.

thanks.

If you have system restore enabled... now is the chance to use it.

Please also note to scan your system for a virus incause it is the factor that it is trying to modify your windows files.
It could be another possibility that another software you are using causing the problem.

If you do not have windows xp cd and has system restore disabled, I do not really have other suggestions other than try buying another copy
