Windows installation : location of the users directory

Hello,

As a suggestion to microsoft, I would ask for the ability to set the
location of the users directory.
It is well known that putting together the system and the user data is not a
best practive for installing a computer.
So why isn't is easy to indicate where to store user data when installing a
copy a windows vista ?
Like in Windows XP, this could be done via the registry after copying at
your own risk the directory on the drives. It is not practical nor safe.
I would be so easy to give to the user the ability to indicate the directory
where putting the users folder. I know there is a mean with the unattend.xml
installation, but it is not usefull to.

Why do you need to change the location to something other than the default?
In Vista, the Users folder is already completely separate from the Program
Files folder and the Windows folder. Please help me understand what isn't
working for you now.

You can change the locations of the individual folders within your
Users\<username> folder. Right-click on a folder, choose Properties, and
select the Location tab.

I just installed Vista Utimate and have a Raid1 system drive, and a very
large raid 5 data drive. I want to move the default folder store for my user
account to the large raid 5 array. I see that the individual folders can be
moved to the raid, but I was looking for an easy "Change Target" button on a
properties option when I right clicked on my User Folder, but its not there.

There's no supported mechanism for changing the location of the Users
folder, so use the "Change Target" button on the individual folders within
your own Users folder.
