Windows Installer - HELP PLEASE

Posted: 07-26-2004, 02:37 AM
I recently did a recovery on my computer and since then I
am having trouble installing or uninstalling various
programs.

I regularly get a message stating, that the file I am
looking for "is on a network resource thatis
unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a
folder containing the installation
package, "__________.msi" in the box below.
C:\hp\tem\src\en\"

There is no such file on my computer.

I enabled Windows Installer logging tonight, and I am
getting the following messages when trying to open
Add/Remove in the Control Panel and when clicking on
Norton Systemworks.

Event Type: Warning

Microsoft.com has not provided any help whatsoever. I
purchased my HP Computer with Windows XP already
installed. I have the CDs that I made, but not the
original Windows XP disk. Never again! Microsoft won't
help and refers me to HP because it is OEM and I think HP
is out to lunch.

There is a tool called Msicuu.exe . It's supplied on the XP
cdrom, although it may be obtainable elsewhere.
It's a part of windows support tools.

It's a cleanup tool for the windows installer.
