Windows Installer/Install shield hang

I bought a new computer and after some programs installations the Windows Installer began to hang on the midle of the instalations of several programs. Sometimes trying several times it works, but most often it doesn't work. I have lost lot of hours............
I thought it was a problem of Windows XP so I reinstalled it several times and eaven one time formating the HDD. Always after some programs installations the problem repeated.
I have disabled my Norton Security and Norton Antivirus without results.
I'v tried ad-aware from Lavasoft too.
I have seen the same problem on this forum on similar cases.
Is ther any solution?
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 5150, 3GB, 512MBRam, XPpro.
