Windows Launch Preview

Posted: 02-27-2007, 05:46 AM
Howdy,
I got home from the New Day Launch in Seattle and couldn't wait to load
Vista. I have the Launch Preview and am confused. It will not give upgrade as
an option only a clean install. I ran Vista Upgrade Adviser and there were no
compatibility issues! Is the Windows Launch Preview not able to upgrade XP?

Vmaxdad--

The launch did not give out Vista. That DVD is one of many promotional ones
showing Vista features, etc and purchase oportunities. You should have
gotten several others. What you have are promotional--get familiar wtth
Vista materials on that DVD. If you want to see what's on it, put in the
DVD and right click the Start button>click explore.

They did however give you a PK and a download site for Office 2007 Pro and
Groove and that's worth about $600.

VMaxdad--

That DVD is not an OS full or upgrade. It's promotional and informational
material. Pop it in and right click Start>click Explorer All Users and you
can look at what's on the DVD.

You did or should have gotten Office 2007 and Groove --you got PKs and a web
site where you can download them and install them.

Until you're certain about application compatibility, you should dual boot.
What the Upgrade Adviser tells you may not be what you find to be true.
Give Vista a disk or partition, let it see XP, and it'll set up a dual boot.

It's not Vista Michael. It's promotional. He doesn'thave a product key for
it, and if you read my post I explained it. I do like dual boots though.

I'd rather have one rock solid operating system that is so self-effacing
I don't have to think about it. Until that day comes, I'm booting several.

You are better informed than I am. I didn't know that they weren't
giving out Vista at the event, but Groove and Office 2007 instead.

I hope "vmaxdad" clicked on the CDO's [ + ] and saw your post.

I sure agree with you Michael on having rock solid systems and backups. I
try my best, making more than one backup of each system, and I use Acronis X
for Vista. I've used Ghost in the past, but for me there are just too many
potential conflicts over the years with Ghost--I remember well the potential
BSOD stop that some people never recovered from with Ghost 8 I believe it
was, and SP2 unless you modified boot.ini and added a line prior to
installing Ghost.

Also some good users on these groups and vets have reported that Ghost 10 is
installing on Vista but not performing well right now.

Thank You Guys... I was confused because when I threw it in my system it
prompted me to Install! I thought cool! That really made it even more
worthwhile for the 5:00am early start to get to the city! The launch was
cool! Do you know if there are promotional copies available? I asked around
yesterday and nobody knew! Seems like the Launch would have been a good place
to sell it! Oh well... if you see Mr. Gates tell him thanks for the breakfast
and lunch too!

Howdy... thanks for all of the help! It was fun going to the city yesterday
for the launch. I have been beta-testing 2007 for months and am tickled at
getting the Program! Too Cool. Definetly worth hittin' the road at 5:00am! I
tried to and thought I did reply earlier but did not see it posted. Thanks
again! It was awesome seeing Mr. Gates in person! Of course the icing was the
free Office Programs! Too cool for the high tech-hickerbilly! If you know of
a good deal on Vista please let me know! I was surprised it couldn't be
purchased at the Launch... I asked all over but no luck!

I skipped Acronis - went from Ghost to BootItNG. Cheap. Versatile.
Quality. OK, so it's got a learning curve - into rock climbing, Chad?
