As you have found out, you and not just "copy" over everything to a new
drive. It does not copy any file that is in open/in use. It also does not
copy hidden/system files/folders, unless you "unhide" them first. You can
not boot from, or use a drive where you have done this (unless the files are
purely informational).... your personal files.

You need a program that will do a "drive copy", of which there are a few.
Some are Drive Image, Ghost and True Image!

Yes, I know. I used Norton Ghost to copy everything.
