Windows Live Mail Beta - anyone using this?

Posted: 06-23-2007, 05:47 PM
I'm "thinking" ~ downloading and installing the new Microsoft
Windows Live Mail beta:
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

Questions:
1. Will it COMPLETELY REPLACE my most crummy Vista Windows Mail?
2. Have you actually downloaded and "tried it" and are currently running it
as a
replacement for Vista WinMail?
3. Do you Like it?
Dislike it?
Wish you had stayed with Vista WinMail?

As for me, I wish I had my old PC back, with XP Pro & Outlook :-(

THANKS!
Gene

-- Gene, What you want is "Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta", an improvement
to the one you mentioned.
1. Takes 20 min to set up.
2. Is one click from Desktop or tray.
3. Never requires name or password.
4. Holds many Email accounts including Hotmail, but without the ads.
5. Has many features that I'm slill discovering.
6. So far it's perfect. Make sure it's "Desktop". Wayne

THANKS, Wayne!

Did you "keep" your Vista Windows Mail, and continue to use
it as your primary email client?

Other than the normal "unable to delete from the Inbox problem",
the only other problem that I have with Vista Windows Mail is that
I am unable to SEND an email to a Craig's List post by clicking
on the email link on any craigslist.org www page.

So I'm hoping that the Desktop you mentioned totally "replaces"
Vista Windows Mail. Does Desktop use Windows Mail to send email,
or does it have a totally "new" mail client built into Desktop that is
compatible
with Vista?

I really just want ONE email client, preferably not my current
Vista Windows Mail :-(

THANKS,
Gene

uh, no.

WLMDesktop is the older one, which is replaced with Windows Live Mail beta.

Gene, You will not need WM as WLMDbeta replaces it and you keep your address.

Everything is tranfered to the new one - contacts etc. When I left WM, I
left all its glitches behind, including an error message. Try it, you'll like
it. Wayne

For all practical purposes, yes. It removes the Windows Mail shortcuts,
but leaves the actual WM program in place, should you ever have a need
to go back to it.

Yes, since May 31.

All programs have good points and bad points.
So far WLM has been far less troublesome than WM was.

OK, I'll backup to a spare USB HD and to DVDs as well - good excuse
to backup everything - then download the beta and give it a go...

Looks like everyone is pointing to this URL to
download a free beta copy?
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

This is the correct (current) URL, right?

Thanks again,
Gene

Yes, that's the correct URL. Gary has a tendency towards understatement,
whereas I cannot say enough about WLMDB. Of course I have had very bad luck
with all Emails before this one. Thanks again Gary. Wayne

Email clients or software capable of retrieving msn.com or hotmail.com
email(pop3 or http)accounts since 1995.
1. Exchange
2. Internet Mail and News
3. Windows Messaging which was an update and rename of #1 to avoid confusion
with the corporate Exchange Server
4. Outlook Express
5. Msn Explorer
6. Hotmail
7. Outlook
8. Windows Live Mail Beta
- which had a Live and Classic interface and the ability to revert the
account back to #6 interface
9. Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta
10. Windows Mail(Vista)
11. Windows Live Hotmail which merged #6 and #8
12. Windows Live Mail beta which was #9 until #11 occurred

Today depending upon the type of account(fee or free) numbers 4, 5, 7, 10,
11, and 12 still function.

Gene, in this list it would appear that WLMDB (#9) predates WM whereas I
thought it was the latest version. I suspect this list is out of order. If
you look it also says that #9 no longer functions, but I just downloaded it 2
days ago, so this list is not accurate. Can someone confirm this list? Wayne
