Windows Mail Address Book

Posted: 10-16-2006, 08:43 PM
I came across a couple of interesting situations in Windows Mail this
morning that I think are rather serious shortcomings:

1. In sending out mail to a couple of dozen friends I was told that not all
of them wanted (or were set up, I guess) to receive HTML mail but rather
plain text. I thought this strange but had a look - a simple thing to
determine in Outlook Express. But wait a minute - nowhere could I find any
option for individual contacts in my Address Book to select whether they
wanted HTML or Plain Text. So I guess my question is how are some of the
contacts in my Address Book complaining to the system when I try to send
them HTML? Am I missing something?

2. Okay, here's the second problem. I have set up my address book, or at
least tried to, the same as I had it set up under Outlook Express. First of
all I was very disappointed to find I could not. First I set up my
most-used Contacts in the main folder. Then under that I set up specific
folders for less-used Contacts. Unfortunately, in Windows Mail, when I
click on the To: in my message, it brings up ALL the contacts, not just
those in the main folder, as in Outlook Express. That makes addressing mail
very time-consuming.

That aside, if I double-click and go into one of the sub-folders there's no
way to get back out into the main folder. There needs to be an Up option.
Oh, I know I could just open the Navigation Pane but I don't want the
Navigation Pane open - just a simple Up button would do the trick very
nicely.

And what's with the Address Book window not remember from opening to opening
how it was set up. That's really annoying.

Hi. I'm trying to find out how to get my aol address book to my windows mail
contacts. I've got everything set up for sending and receiving e-mail, but no
contacts. Also, is there a way to auto-add contacts when I receive new mail?
Thank you.

You can right click on a message in the header list and add the sender to
your contacts that way. Is there a way to export the AOL list as a CSV
file? It might be able to import that.

Hello,

I am enjoying my new HP Pavillion notebook! I understand that Windows Mail
has replaced Outlook Express.
I've encountered some problems and I hope you can help.

1. I used to be able to copy and paste eMail addresses in the BCC line -
cannot do that now ... I desperately need that function to work for my
business.
2. I cannot find an Address Book. I'm sure these are just "operator
problems". Please help.
3. I think the facsimile of an address book is being compiled from my "To"
lines in eMails that I send out. I don't want that to happen and I cannot
find out how to delete them.

HELP!

Thanks,

nolajeanne

"Address Book" is called "Contacts" ; top toolbar,to the right of "send and
receive".

Hi, I was wondering if you have worked out how to add contacts to your
address book. I have tried a few different ways but I keep getting an error
message.
Also when I try to save documents onto the computer it will not allow me.
Any help on how to solve the above problems would be much appreciated.
Thankyou.

If you don't see the New Contact button, right click in a blank spot on the
right and choose Properties | Customize. Set the template to Contacts.
