Windows Mail no more hotmail?

So I take it there's no more checking hotmail in Windows Mail 7 like there
was in OE6 in XP?

If you are asking about Windows Mail in Vista, that is correct. You can use
either the Windows Live Mail or Windows Mail Desktop Beta for getting
Hotmail or just use the web interface but the option is not available in
Vista's Windows Mail.

Jim, is it possible for you to provide some insight as to why the decision
was made for Win Mail not to support HTTP email accounts? I use Office
Outlook, so I am not affected (yet) but my curiosity is piqued by this, as I
see it as a future PR issue.

I think the method that was used to access Hotmail was determined to be a
security risk, so they removed that method.

I suspect the reason is because of some security vulnerabilities with the
WebDAV protocol, but the dev team is emphatic, that HTTP mail *will not* be
supported in Windows Mail in Vista.

Cute sig. Maybe Ted has stock in Drano or something to help keep the
"tubes" cleaned. Jon Stewart is pretty funny.

Thank-you, Jim, for the response. I suspected it was somehow security
related, but being a mere hobbyist, I can only assume and guess much of the
time. I suppose, as time marches forward, and less and less Hotmail
accounts are accessible by OE and Outlook, this will become less of an
issue. Empathy from the dev team and $2.00 buys a cup of coffee, though,
for the people left somewhat stranded on the side of the information super
highway.

Come on, guys. You really believe that?

WLMD is used as a means to deliver advertising.
Also, Active Search in WLMD is very similar to what
Google does. *Except*, Google only throws advertising
at you when checking your email via the web. They
allow free POP access. Heck, even AIM mail now
allows free IMAP access. MyRealbox has always
allowed free Pop access. Seems like Microsoft is
moving in the opposite direction.

There's absolutely no need to use WLMD-
you might as well just use your browser to
check your hotmail account- either way,
advertisements will be thrown at you. And
of course, you won't have "Active Search" going
through all your emails looking for key words
so that it may display "relevant links".

Microsoft wants in on the booming bonanza of
advertising dollars flooding the internet. I
don't blame them for that, it's business. But
let's be honest about it- WLMD was made for
one purpose- to generate advertising revenue.

Hey, they've got to find some way to replace
the $40 billion they are going to spend buying
back stock.
