Windows Media Encoder

Posted: 01-31-2007, 04:08 AM
I downloaded the xp embedded trial and from the site and have been
trying to custom it to my needs. I got the main program componetized
ok. But I am hitting a snag when it comes to the last, and arguably
the most important program needed for this application, Windows Media
Encoder.

I ran the usual tools to check what files and registry entries it
makes on install, and frankly was taken back by the sheer amount of
items I am going to have to manually add to the component to even have
a chance of it working. What I was wondering if anyone here has
gotten windows media encoder working before, and maybe has some
advice, or perhaps a download to the component to set up windows media
encoder on XPe.

Thanks, any help at all is appreciated.

Bob

No response, I have to admit I am not exactly filled with confidence
over that. I guess its a harder problem than I initially thought.

I guess I could add them manually, its just thought of adding over 2
thousand items, and then no real garentee that it will work, tends to
make me want to shy away from the endevure. I guess I could try to
add a shoutcast server, and see how that goes, but since my companies
entire audio infrastructure is built upon windows media player that
not going to be that easy either. Seems like I am stuck in a catch 22
on this.

You can try installing the Windows Media Encoder software at run time if you got Windows Installer service component added to your
image Config.

This should work assuming you got all the WME dependencies in the image.

Thanks KM

I never thought about that, how would I get around all the user
prompts required for install with a headless system?

OK, I am an idiot, I misread the answer that KM gave me. I will try
to install at runtime and see what happens.
