I bought the Dell desk to p XP home edition 2400 three
weeks ago. The Windows MJedia Player does not operate. It
does not make a connection with the internet. I've tried
speaking to a Dell technician but I can't get through to
any of them. When I call, they keep me on the phone for
hours but, I can"t get the help to make "Windows Media
Player" work.Please help

Hi,

Looks like you may not have the video codec installed on your PC... Is this an AVI file?

The following article may help you:

Thanks for getting back to me. Sally

Hi Marc.....Don't laugh but I don't know what an AVI file
is. I think the extensions on the things I am trying to
view are wmv, mov, and ifo. Thanks so much for your
help. Sally

MOV needs Quicktime (www.quicktime.com)... IFO will NOT play on WMP.. it is
part of a trio (usually) of files with the same names but different
extensions that refer to files on a DVD. (the other two being VOB and BUP).
If you have DVD codecs installed, the VOB file plays.

I have an Nvida 5700 ultra video card with S Video out.
I was able to hook the S Video to the TV and play my
desktop images, games, etc. directly to the TV without
problem. However, I can not play my windows media
player. It works fine on the computer screen but does
not work on the TV screen. I'm at a loss.

Hello there,

Yes thats perfectly notmal....its all to do with what you computer
monitor actually is. In this case its a special mapping direct from a
section of memory (Its as if the screen itself is the memory). You can't do
that with a domestic TV.

If your NVidia card has provision for a second monitor (mine has) then
instead of using S-Vide connect the output for the second monitor to your
SCART socket. Doing it that way WILL cause the video to be displayed on the
TV. I have done it this way and find the result to be less than
satisfactory.....plugging a second monitor into the card gives the same
quality as the first monitor.

Hope that helps a little.

Best Wishes.....John Kelly
