Windows Media Player-can't hear files it's playing online.

abruptly lost its sound when playing anything from a web
site (any web site). You can see the slide moving along,
and it says "Playing" but you can't hear anything.
Everything is enabled under "file types" and none of the
mute boxes are checked in the volume control window and
all the volume settings are medium to high. My son
installed a new sound card and we also installed the
Zone Alarm fire wall, possibly around the time MP quit
working, but my son can still play files he's down loaded
with no problem. Also, when I disable Zone Alarm MP
still doesn't work.
Anybody have any ideas?
