This was a little hard to follow, but the gist of your statements seems to
be that your CD drive is non-functional?

Have you tried running the CD-ROM troubleshooter in Device Manager?

Hi,
Try going to start on your desktop then to control panel.
When control panel open click add or remove programs.
Scroll down and find windows media player click remove
and this should uninstall the program safely.

As odd trivia - that actually doesn't uninstall the player. That just hides
access to the player. The only way to "remove" the player on Windows XP is
to roll it back to a previous version using System Restore.

Is your WMP's Media Library otherwise functional?
