Windows Media Sound

Posted: 10-27-2006, 05:43 PM
I am having an issue I cannot figure out. I can see video for Windows Media
but I have no sound-I have sound on all other Internet and PC items but no
sound or ablitity to play CD's either. I have re installed Media 10 and tried
to delete the file and folders from the PC but it tells me that another
application is in use-I have nothing else on! The following is the error
message...Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a
problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed
on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be
functioning properly.

In addition I cannot burn anything to the program is well.

Click the MUTE button next to the volume slider.

Reinstall your audio drivers. They often go AWOL after a set of Microsoft
updates.

Mike:

Thank you for your help..How do I install the drivers? Do I reinstall
Windows XP-The disk is three years old, came with the Gateway, and when I
tried to do that before it said that the version on the disk was not up to
date with what I had? Should I delete the XP programs and reinstall from
scratch? Or would it be easier to buy something thathas the sound card and
reinstall that way?

To install the drivers, you first need to know what your sound card is, and
then you can generally go to the manufacturer's website to download them.

To find your drivers: Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices Properties >
Hardware.
The audio drivers are usually listed after your DVD/CD drivers. You may care
to select that item, and then work through the Troubleshooter provided on
that dialog.
