Windows Meida Player Hangs Up

I made the mistake of downloading and installing SP2 for XP and now I
everytime I try to play music or videos it just hangs up or plays back in
a sort of frame by frame mode. I know there is a severe problem cause
I have read countless emails, But no one is offering a solution. It worked
just fine before.
Any help is appreciated.
