I would like to eliminate the Windows Messenger. Is it necessary that I
keep it in some way while using XP? How will it affect my using Outlook
Express, if any? What is the best way to remove it from my system? Thanks
in advance, Fran

Their is no problems in removing it, but the best way to do this is to goto
C:\Program Files\Messenger and rename the folder to something like "Win
Messenger". This is cause Windows not to lead the program ever.

Hello. We bought a new Dell computer running XP Home Edition last
week.

Is it possible to uninstall Windows Messenger? I don't use the
program, and it keeps popping up. I don't see Messenger listed in my
Add/Remove programs list, which led me to think that Microsoft had
designated it an indispensable tool, such as Internet Explorer. However, I
find that hard to believe.

Update to last post. I wasn't able to uninstall Messenger, but I
did figure out how to disable it from starting at boot up by going into the
Options area.

Close your contact list in Outlook Express.

You could always try:

Open OE
Tools | Options | General
Uncheck "open windows messenger"
