Windows Movie Maker

Posted: 11-29-2003, 02:52 AM
I am trying to add music to home movies using my own
store bought music cd's and when I try to import the
music into Windows Movie Maker I get the following
message:
".wma is protected using digital rights management and
cannot be imported."

Is there any way around this?

Thank you.

Hi Dave,

Did you rip these using Windows Media Player on the same computer you are
using Movie Maker?

If so, open Media Player and go to the Tools menu and choose Options. Click
the Copy Music tab and under Copy Settings, uncheck 'Copy protect music'.
Then re-copy the song you want from the CD and see if using that newly
copied track will work in Movie Maker.

Matt, this worked but I still have the same problem when
I try to import a song that I bought from Napster.

Is the song from Napster a wma file also? I'm guessing that with Napster,
they're definitely securing the files, so with Movie Maker it won't let you
put import a secured song because the movie has the potential to be released
to people who didn't purchase a license to listen to it (or something to
that effect).

Matt,
Yes it is a .wma file. I suspect you are correct. Thanks
for your help.
