Are you running any third-party security programs?

I am running Windows Live One Care, however, i have found a solution to my
problem. I simply started the service using the "Run..." command and opening
services.msc

There are two general approaches that may fix your problems. All of the
commands are typed in manually at the command prompt (type "cmd" and ENTER
in your start menu). Run as administrator.

Method 1:
winmgmt /verifyrepository
If WMI repository is reported to be inconcistent, run the following command:
winmgmt /salvagerepository

Method 2:
net stop winmgmt /y
ren %windir%\system32\wbem\repository
%windir%\system32\wbem\repository.old
Then restart.

Default Re: Windows Security Center

Just jumping in here.

Vista Ultimate - fully up to date using default user account.

Trying Method One I get Error code:0x80041003, WMI, Access Denied.
Trying Method Two, I don't get past the Net Stop portion and I get System
Error 5 has occurred, Access is Denied.

How would I go about fixing those?

Click start >search. Type CMD in the search box. Find CMD in the search
pane, right click and choose "run as administrator".

Default Windows Security Center

recently something attacked my NAV (I am running Vista Hoem premium) and I
had to remove it and re-install it (successfully). Now my Windows Security
Center keeps telling me that the computer cannot find any anti-virus software
on the computer. I know that NAV is working, as I am able to get my Live
Updates, conduct scans and the program is lisetd in my Programs (and the
security shield is on my toolbar). Any suggestions on how to convice the
Security Center that I have NAV installed properly? FYI - this happens even
after I re-boot with the NAV on.

What antivirus program do you have installed? Many antivirus and security
programs have their own version of a "Security Center" that take over for
the one built into Vista/XP. If this is your case, then the behavior you
are seeing is by design.

If this isn't the case, your computer is probably infected.

There is no way for us to know which it is from what you've written, so
please supply the missing details to get more help.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus
status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and
versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:
