Verify that your computer's date and time are accurate and that the Internet
Explorer language option is not empty.
To check the language setting in Internet Explorer:
1. Click "Tools" and then choose "Internet Options"
2. Click the "Languages" button
3. Make sure at least one language is listed in the "Language Options" dialog.

I recently re-formatted my hard drive and re-booted from
the recovery disk supplied with my PC ( A Vulcan 3001)
Since then I cannot get access to windows updates as
every time I try the system goes to ...... Scanning
system for updates and then comes back with --- Error
Windows update has encountered an error and cannot
display the requested page. Any Ideas what`s missing or
how to get it back ?

I don't know if this is your problem, but I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows and couldn't access Windows Update because the date on my computer was incorrect. So check and make sure that the date is correct.

Windows Update

Hi,
I'm having trouble updating Windows. Every time I
attempt to update, I receive the error message:
0x800C0005; which doesn't relate to anything on the
Windows Help page. But there is something when I look
on "Search Microsoft.com - though it's nothing to do
with this problem!!
I called my PC Manufacturer - as instructed, and they
told me it was a web page fault; though this has been a
problem for some weeks now...
I don't know if the problems are related, but since I've
been unable to "update", my internet security package and
anti-virus program haven't been working properly. I know
I don't have a virus, as I can manually run the virus
check and it comes back fine.
Any help as to why I can't update would be appreciated.

Bod.

I have downloaded all the windows updates for XP from
windows catalog and put them onto a c.d. is there any way
i can run the windows update program on other computers
but instead of downloading the updates from the internet,
which is very slow for me, it installs them from the c.d.
with all the updates on? Thanks. Ed.

When I try to use the windows update either through the ms
site or directly from the help and support page on my
computer, I get this message:

"Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update
software...
Depending on your connection speed, this might take a
minute. To
ensure that you're able to view Windows Update when this
verification
is complete, select Yes in any "Security Warning" dialog
boxes that
appear."

The update process freezes at this point.

I do not have Zone Alarm on my system and I have my Norton
Firewall shut off.

I'm on a XP sp1 Home system. I also use IE Explorer 6 sp1.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Thanks for the help!!!!

Windows Update keeps updating kb828026 to my computer but
still shows in update to download it again. If I go to
registry it is not there, even though I have downloaded
it a dozen times? How can I get it to download properly
so Win Update does not keep downloading it?
