| Running Windows Vista Ultimate on a Dell. I cannot set my Update to automatic because it says some settings are managed by the Administrator. I AM the Administrator. I cannot get the updates to configure correctly because the Automatic Update is greyed out. What can I do? | Guest

| Click Start, type gpedit.msc and press ENTER Goto the following branch: Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Windows Update Double-click "Configure Automatic Updates" Set it to "Not configured" Note: If it is already set to "Not configured", enable the Policy and revert the setting back to "Not configured". This resets any registry based Policy if set already. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] Windows® Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "Linda" <Linda@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:25AC2522-C63C-40E2-9B91-1F3D19DF3C88@microsoft.com... | Linda, gpedit.msc is most definitely included in Ultimate. Are you by any chance joined to a Domain? -- Jane, not plain 64 bit enabled :-)Batteries not included. Braincell on vacation ;-) "Linda" <Linda@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E9E4A88D-749D-4BC1-9A53-3E7EAF8B425B@microsoft.com... Quote:

| Jane,Thanks for the suggestion. No I am not part of a Domain. I looked for gpedit.msc and couldn't find it in my folders. I hit start and run and typed in the command but it says it can't find gpedit.msc. Thanks again. "Jane C" wrote: Quote:

| I did try it and it didn't work. I looked in system32 and I have gpedit.dll and that is the only gpedit folder I have. Thank You. "Ramesh, MS-MVP" wrote: Quote:

| Group Policy Editor is certainly included in Windows Vista Ultimate. Type "winver" in Start, Search box and press ENTER. This shows the Operating System / edition installed in your computer. To remove the AU/WU restrictions, you may use this REG: http://www.winhelponline.com/fixes/wupolicy_remove.reg Download wupolicy_remove.reg and save to Desktop. Right-click "wupolicy_remove.reg" and choose Merge Click "Continue", and click "Yes" to confirm the Merge. -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell/User] Windows® Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "Linda" <Linda@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:3625766F-50EE-484C-910B-0ED6D684A000@microsoft.com...
