Windows update error

Windows. Previously Tim Newton[MSFT] had suggested that I might be behind a
firewall (which I could not find one on the control panel) or on Internet
Explorer/the Auto Detect Setting under LAN on the connection tab might be
the problem (checked that and it is not set to Automatically Detect). So as
you can see I still am experiencing the error problem without knowing what
to do. Is there someplace to go to check what this error message actually
means??? Is there a way to check for a firewall that I have not tried???
Is there someone I can actually talk to (real time) to solve this problem.
I have been trying for almost 2 weeks to fix it on two different newsgroups
without luck. PLease HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar Win Update problem.

It may sound silly but the problem was the *date* on my computer. For
reasons unknown to me, my computer was showing the year *2010* instead of
2003 (last year of course).

Check it by right clicking on the digital clock in the bottom right corner
of your screen. Click on adjust date/time. See if that's the problem.

It might just be that?

If you type in the error number 0x800x0005 in 'search' on Microsoft's home
page.. http://www.microsoft.com/ it should come up with some sort of an
answer.
