Windows Update v 5 oddity

Posted: 06-30-2004, 02:33 AM
I installed the new Updater, but have not yet tried SP2 -- waiting for the
final.

However, since installing the new updater, I'm getting the following
application log entries roughly every 6 hours (not exactly, sadly). There are
two pairs of entries, about 5 min. apart each time:

First pair:

1)

Event Type: Information
Event Source: ESENT
Event Category: General
Event ID: 100
Date: 6/30/2004
Time: 9:40:40 AM
User: N/A
Computer: (deleted)
Description:
wuauclt (3980) The database engine 5.01.2600.0000 started.

2)

Event Type: Information
Event Source: ESENT
Event Category: General
Event ID: 102
Date: 6/30/2004
Time: 9:40:40 AM
User: N/A
Computer: (deleted)
Description:
wuaueng.dll (3980) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine started a new
instance (0).

Then about 5 min. later, this pair:

3)

Event Type: Information
Event Source: ESENT
Event Category: General
Event ID: 103
Date: 6/30/2004
Time: 9:45:40 AM
User: N/A
Computer: (deleted)
Description:
wuaueng.dll (3980) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine stopped the
instance (0).

4)

Event Type: Information
Event Source: ESENT
Event Category: General
Event ID: 101
Date: 6/30/2004
Time: 9:45:40 AM
User: N/A
Computer: (deleted)
Description:
wuauclt (3980) The database engine stopped.

I spent a fair amount of time at the Kbase, and EventID.com, but I was unable
to come up with anything definitive.

Anyone?

Well, I thought so too. But I have that service disabled. And it remains
disabled. Update v 5 did not enable it behind my back. That was the first
thing I checked for.

Got any other ideas? <g>
