Windows Vista Upgrade Page Fault

Posted: 02-28-2007, 03:17 AM
I have have multiple systems and have set a side a system for Vista upgrade
that is powerful and has no errors. Windows Adviser shows with the exception
of MSN Software and an HP printer driver Vista was good to go. The upgrade
in the gathering phase generates an Invalid Page Fault, Blue Screens and
restarts. The error references POSSIBLE antivirus issues but this is a
current 2007 Norton upgraded for Vista and disabled.

Could Vista be inspecting or gathering information about installed but
unused drivers? I have retained an image of the original and performed a
clean upgrade without issue. I like most people would not prefer to
reinstall 20-30 applications. Has anyone experienced Advisor acceptable but
unsuccessful upgradable systems.

Hi galoring,

I can't be sure this is applicable to you but all of the systems I have
heard of which run o.k. in XP and then BlueScreen in Vista have been RAM
problems. Please download memtest86 (its free) and do a thorough scan of
your memory. You may need to replace the RAM, downclock the RAM, or increase
the voltage of the RAM to make it stable. A bad sector at the end of the RAM
stick may not cause a problem with XP but can cause regular bluescreens with
Vista because of the increased security to prevent buffer overflow
exploitation. Again, I can't be sure this will fix your problem but it is
free to try and easier than installing 20programs.

Alternatively it could be motherboard drivers which need an update but
please check the memory anyway just to keep me happy.

Best Regards,
Mr Slartybartfast.
