| This problem is complex to describe - please be patient. * I have a Dell Dimension 8300 with 1GB memory, 240GB HD, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card, LITEON DVD- ROM, NEC DVD+RW, ATI Radeon 9800 display adapter. * Installed Roxio's Easy Media Creator 7 (EMC7). * After reboot, I saw that all desktop icons that I have changed have reverted to Windows default icons. See NOTE below. To recreate the problem, please follow these detailed steps: 1. Right-click Desktop; select Properties. 2. Click Appearance tab; for "Windows and buttons" select "Windows Classic style". 3. Click Desktop tab. 4. Click Customize Desktop... 5. Make sure My Computer is checked in the Desktop Icons area (so it will show on the desktop). 6. Change icons for My Computer, My Network, and Recycle Bin (full and empty). 7. Click Apply. 8. Click on Themes tab; click Save As... and save to theme file (this will help recreate later). 9. Open Windows Explorer. 10.Select My Documents; press F2 to rename, and rename to Data. 11.Select My Network Places; press F2 to rename, and rename to Network. 12.At this point, you can either create a restore point or save an image of the disk partition that contains Windows, before proceeding to install EMC7. 13.Install EMC7, selecting option to remove ECDC6; use Customize option and install the following items: Disc Copier, Capture, DVD Builder, Creator Classic, Drag-to- Disc, Label Creator, Roxio Player, VideoWave. 14.After rebooting, you will see that the My Computer, Networking, and Recycle Bin icons have reverted back to their blue Windows default. Also, the folders Data and Network have reverted back to their Windows default of My Documents and My Network Places, respectively. Please Assist!!!! | Guest

| Very common issue as of late. Either try a driver roll-back or live with it for now. -- Happy Easter, Kelly Microsoft-MVP Windows® XP Troubleshooting Windows XP http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com Taskbar Repair Tool Plus! http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm "Naveen Gupta" <naveen_del@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1ae4201c41e7e$4a1047b0$a101280a@phx.gbl... | I had a similar problem & posted what I found here: http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&l...TNGP12.phx.gbl The fix is: Start -> Run -> Regedit Navigate to: "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ex plorer\Clsid" (HKCU = HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT) Right-click the folder icon for this key & select 'Permissions' Click 'Advanced' -> click 'Add' -> type "System" -> click 'OK' Put a check in the 'Deny' column for the 'Set Value' permission. 'OK' your way out. My custom icons are staying put & I haven't seen any adverse effects. Keith "Naveen Gupta" <naveen_del@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1ae4201c41e7e$4a1047b0$a101280a@phx.gbl...
