windows XP Home Service pack 1a

I have tried to install SP1a three times and have gotten
an error message all three times near
the end of the install portion of the process.
The messaage says it cannot copy the file ntkrnlpa.exe.
I skipped the file and then windows XP HOME wouldnt boot.
Had to reinstall windows after much trouble trying to
boot from both the boot disk and my original copy of XP.
Finaly got it to boot from the xp disk.
I want to have SP1 but I get this same error each time.
The last time I downloaded the pack to my HD and when I
got this error I checked and the file is there.
(version): 5.1.2600.1106
(size): 1.85 MB
Any help with this is greatly appreciated
