Windows XP - no floppy

Help
Cannot get floppy to load in XP Professional. However
loads in "safe mode". Computer hangs when starting if
floppy is enabled in device manager during normal
startup. To load I must go into safe mode and disable
floppy drive in order for XP to load normally. Once
loaded I can then enable the floppy and it will work.
