Hi,

What file system is the external media using? If FAT32, then the largest
backup file you will be able to create is 4GB (minus a few bytes).

Thanks. Not sure what file system, just an external hard
drive I purchased off the shelf. I just installed Windows
XP Pro, if that makes a difference. Is there a better way
to back up important files to the external hard drive? I
thought XP Pro would solve my problems.

Hi,

WinXP Pro isn't the problem, it can create and use large files. The
limitation you are encountering is probably because of the file system in
use. Right-click the drive in Windows Explorer, check properties to find out
what you are currently using.
