Windows XP Professional - Unable to view Task Manager / IE / Regedit

Hi there,

I have a friend who has recently upgraded to XP Professional. Since doing so
he is unable to access the internet. He is also unable to call up the task
manager using Ctrl - Alt - Del : the window appears for approx a second and
then disappears. The same is occuring when attempting to run REGEDIT. When
booting in SAFE mode then all of the above operate as normal.

I have run a virus check on the machine and it is clean.

Does anyone have any pointers on how to progress this?

w32.spybot worm disables NAV, Msconfig, Regedit and Task Manager:

Try this to:

Rename regedit.exe to regedit.com then:

Download then Merge the edit on line 251 then delete all the files mentioned
in the above link.
