Windows XP Sounds ?

Posted: 12-18-2003, 05:40 AM
I do not get any sounds in windows XP or MSN Messenger i.e new person logs
on, new message received, normal sounds like clicking sounds exit windows ,
empty trash bin and those kind of sounds are missing. I can play games and
MP3's without any problems. I first posted this problem on the MSN Messenger
newsgroup and was given a link to download two files that I was told should
fix the problem but it didn't. If someone knows how to get the sounds
working again without reinstalling windows XP please let me know. I am
almost certain that all my settings are correct and my soundcard is properly
installed.

Hi,

Did u enable sounds in MSN Messenger and Windows XP. Go to control panel and select sounds and then specify a sound scheme. You can personalize the sounds for each action.

I have already done that, with no success. If I add a new user the sounds
work for the new user but not for me. I have tried everything.

I finally found out what my problem is. I used "regedit" and noticed that :
"HKEY_Current_User\AppEvents\Schemes" had .current in the data field. I
changed it to .default and everything works now.
