Windows XP start menu and shortcut icons not functioning properly

menu will dissapper too quick for me to choose a program
and my shortcut icons for my programs will only bring up
the properties box when I click on them. If I right
click, I can choose Open and the program will open.
However, my keyboard will not work to type anything. I am
writing this from work because I could get my keyboard at
home to operate. I can open items from the tray at the
bottom just by clicking on them. I have run the Norton
Anti-Virus and it did not find any viruses. I also ran
the WinDoctor and it found some application errors. The
errors would state a number with the file extension .dll
and would say that it was an invalid application. I
allows it to automatically fix the errors that it found
but that did not solve the problem so I undid the fix.
Could someone please give me some ideas of what I need to
do to correct this problem?
