windows xp and windows 98; how do i do it?

ive been trying to figure out how exactly do i connect a
windows 98 machine to a windows xp machine. i just
recieved a computer from my friend and i need to backup
some stuff for him to this computer, because im restoring
the one i recieved back to its original state (when he
bought it). can someone please help me with this delemma?
