1. File that are held open may not defrag on FAT32 drives.
2. If the disk is low on free space, large files cannot defrag. Move
some larger files to a different disk or partition, defrag, then move
the files back.

I run diskeeper on my system set to defrag when the
screensaver is on and I never have to even think about
defragging at all

Windows XP won't defrag?

There might be a database or some other application that
would stop working if the file handles all moved around
(as it would in a defrag). In other words - the files
must be found in the tract and section where the program
stored them (ie - it talks directly to the hard drive and
doesn't use the FAT table to find files). The analysis
program would see the separated files and say "you should
defrag" but the program says "no - don't. leave it where
I put it".

If there are no actual problems on the machine, ignore the
suggestion regarding defrag: it might not applicable in
this system's situation.

Just my opinion

I have founed that power quest backup files can show up
as as much as 90% fragmented but it wont allow you to
defrag them.
