WindowsXP start up help please

When I shut down and then cold boot my computer, Windows
does a "loop" several times showing my RAM, etc., before it
will boot into the area where I can choose the identity I
want to use. I have been running without any problems for
almost a year and a half. Is there some way to "fix" this
without reinstalling or reformating (arghhh). Thanks
