"WINIPCFG" is the Win9x command to show your computers IP
configuration. Naturally, this command won't be found on a WinXP
computer. To the same information on a WinXP machine, Click Start >
Run, and type in CMD. Then, from the command prompt, type IPCONFIG /?
to get the full list of options available.

WNTIPCFG.EXE does not come with XP, but works fine with XP.

Use ipconfig.

To display an ipconfig help message...

Open a cmd prompt and type:

ipconfig /?

Hit your Enter key.

You can get the Windows 2000 version of IPCONFIG here:

I have it installed on my XP Pro machine and it works fine.

The file WNTIPCFG.EXE can be downloaded from the Microsoft web site and used
to determine the configuration and it does not have to be run from the
command line - it can be run from within Windows.

Where (the path) do you install in XP?. So, if I download into a folder on
desktop, closed it, then open and double clock it, it will then ask me for
the path, then I just point it to the location, is it correct? TIA

In xp, at start/run I typed in 'ipconfig', what happen is that I can see a
black dialogue box appear in a flash. Is this suppose to be this way or must
the pc be hook up into the broadband. Just checking before I download your

A lot of commands do not work from the Start | Run box as you have seen.
This has nothing to do with what kind of connection you have.

You have to use the ipconfig command in a Command Prompt (cmd.exe).

Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
When the Command Prompt window opens, type:

ipconfig /?

Hit your Enter key.

ipconfig /all is the command you probably want.

You can also get to a Command Prompt this way...
Start | All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
