winlogon.exe - Application Error

Posted: 05-13-2006, 04:41 PM
Every time I try to boot up my computer, it goes to the Safe Mode/Last Good
Config/Normal Start routine. If I attempt to load normally or use the Last
Good Config option, it reboots itself & hits the same routine. If I attempt
to load through Safe Mode, however, I get this message:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
winlogon.exe - Application Error
__________________________________________________ ____________
The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the
application at location 0x77d5b4f4.

|OK || Cancel |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The computer then reboots itself upon clicking OK/Cancel.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do about this???

I have an XPress Recovery option on the pre-load screen (Gigabyte BIOS if it
helps), but it says that using that will lose all data on the hard drive.
I've got a lot of important files that I can't afford to lose on the
computer, so is there any way to fix the problem without formatting (or at
least some way that I can salvage the data from the drive before doing so)???
I'm a student, so I can't afford to have the data recovered professionally
either.

Are you saying you can boot into safe mode, or not?

PS 'lot of important files that I can't afford to lose' and no backup?
