winmail.dat attachments on AOL 9.0

through fine, but the other two converted to winmail.dat
attachments that I can't open. I checked the Microsoft
update site, and downloaded updates from the Microsoft
Office site that were supposed to deal with an
incompatibility issue between Office '97 and 2000 when
using Rich Text. My correspondent sent the files again
but they still came through as winmail.dat files. She
says a lot of people have had problems with her files,
but updating at the Microsoft site usually fixes it for
them. Am I missing something?
