winpeshl.exe - unable to locate component

Posted: 08-24-2006, 02:29 PM
I am installing the Vista Beta DVD that I downloaded and I am trying to do a
FRESH install on an 80GB HD PATA and I "starting" and get into "Safe Mode" as
I am not able to "start" or initiate the Install, I am at a Safe Mode
"background" type and have windows error:
winpeshl.exe - unable to locate component
I am using build 5384

I have NO installed anything, nor been able to get "into" windows, I load
the DVD in the player and it starts, Windows starts to "install" and then
"hangs" I press F6 or F8 and then get to "Safe Mode" and think maybe that
would work.
I have a P4 2.4GHz system with 256MB RAM (planning on putting the other
512MB chip in)

Hmmm... WinPE 2.0 (-W-indows -P-re-Installation -E-nvironment) is the OS
that's booted when you boot from the Vista DVD. If you're getting an error
from winpeshl.exe, one might safely assume there's something wrong with the
DVD. Try burning another at a slower speed. Not that I have personal
experience doing that, just have read it many times in the General NG.
