If you search for Winprint.drv on the Internet, you will find that you're
not the only one with this problem.

I think this file is a component of old versions of Windows and not part of
Windows XP. My guess is that the driver is just not designed to work with
Windows XP. You must find a driver that is targeted for the specific
operating system you are using.

What model of printer is this? You can usually find the most up to date
drivers on the manufacturer's web site. The driver that comes on CD with the
printer is usually out of date, even if the printer is a new model.

We must also consider the possibility that it is Publisher that is causing
it. Does it occur in Notepad? Can you print a Test Page? What version of
Publisher do you have?

winprint.dll was a 2K driver. It may be that the printer driver is also a 2k
driver.

He said Winprint.drv, not winprint.dll.

The error message says winprint.drv. That may be an internal name for
winprint.dll
Evidently this problem was occurring more frequently in 2004.

See my reply to John Hind in this same thread.

In summary, my guess is that the driver is old or not designed for Windows
XP, so look for a newer one. You can also try other applications or printing
a test page.

"journal" is a program that a friend of mine gave me numerous years ago
and it's just that...a journal or diary if you will. I just don't
understand why now all of a sudden I can't get to it because of this
winprint.drv.

I actually did try to take off this printer and put on the old one that
I had here but it did not work. So I put the new printer back on.
Still nothing.

It sounds as if "journal" is set to use your old printer by default, and
when you installed the new printer, you removed winprint.dll. If you
can't get into "journal", however, you can't change its default printer.

Can you uninstall and then re-install "journal"? If not, maybe you can
salvage the data.

I assume that you have a program called "journal" and that by using that
program you have created, edited, and saved up one or more files that
are (is) the actual text data that you are interested in.

What happens if you try to open that file using another word processing
application, such as MS Word. Try Notepad; you may get some
garbage-looking material in addition to recognizable text.

If none of the applications you have installed on your computer can open
the file (e.g., you get a message such as "unknown format"), see if
Quick View Plus (free 30-day trial download) can deal with it:
