WinXP pauses on startup

Posted: 11-21-2003, 06:37 PM
Hi there,
my Win XP installation pauses for about 70-80 sec during startup
during which you canīt start any program, then it loads the remaining
programs into the taskbar and everything is as usual.
My question: how can I find out which program, task or service is
responsible for that delay?? Is there a program telling me that or
making a kind of boot list where I can see at which time which program
was loaded??
Please help
Thanks in advance
Tom

Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG and press enter. Start up tab would be a good
place to start.

CTRL+SHIFT+ESC will launch task manager, click on the processes tab and sort
by CPU from there you can watch sevices start.

Google "bootvis.exe" and give it a try.

Just a long shot , but try it........
I had the same problem twice and after formatting and reinstalling xp still
the same.
What I did find was that if I turned the pc off at the wall and then power
up again it was good as new.
I put this problem down to something that happened whilst trying to copy
files from the pc to a CF card.

Regards,
Max...

Hi!
Go to http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/utilities.shtml
You'll find plenty of very good free utilities to monitor your PC
activity.
Also get Startup Control Panel from http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

Are you using an ethernet card for DSL?

Hi there,
its me again.
Now Iīve made a fresh Installion of "WinXP home" on my Dell Dimension
8100 (P4 1400 MHz, Jan 2001) and the delay problem was there again
right from the start. I ran BootVis and got the following results:
Process creates:
start: 0 sec
12 sec: (I assume win desktop start)
explorer.exe
spoolsv.exe
cffmon.exe
bootvis_sleep.exe
18 sec: (maybe the time when the delay starts)
devldr32.exe
devldr32.exe
63 sec:
bootvis.exe (end of delay time, during which pc is not responding)

looking in the taskmanager during the delay time:
processes : empty running process with 99%
user: unknown until end of delay time

all network components except TCP/IP Internet disabled

is it a problem with the devldr32.exe file? in a former try Iīve
installed the new drivers for my soundblaster live! from creative.com,
but that didnīt solve the problem...

Please help!
Thanks in advance
Tom.

P.s. the below mentioned total seperation of the pc from the main
power plug did not help...

You may not be aware of this, but at 1:25 AM GMT +1000, there were
6,383,637,533 me's alive on the planet. Which of the other 6,383,637,532
me's are you?

IIRC, the driver that's causing your problem is the driver for your Sound
Blaster card (do you, in fact, have a Sound Blaster card?). If so, go to
the Creative Labs website and download and install per their directions
their latest drivers.
