winxp sp1 network connection icon wont appear

Hi all,

For some reason my network connection icon suddenly refuses to appear, even
though it is set to turn on in the network conenction properties. In fact,
after I connect to my ISP (a pppoe connection) the icon fails to appear, if
I look in the network connections window, it still shows as disconencted and
if I try and click it again, it wants to try and connect again, but
dissappears in a second. My connection works same as before, but I have no
idea how to fix this.
