Wireless adapter not available after XP upgrade

Posted: 09-06-2003, 03:08 AM
Dell laptop running Windows 2000 with a working TrueMobile
1150 card. Upgraded to XP Pro and now wireless adapter is
grayed out and wireless connection does not work. More
info:

* In Control Panel, the Wireless Applet will not open
* The Wireless adapter shows that it is connect properly
* Lights blink on wireless adapter
* Wireless adapter works in other PC (Still running 2K)
* Properties of Wireless adapter has "No" wireless tab
* Double clicking on Wireless adpapter shows grayed
out "Advanced button" (Although it says click Advanced for
help)
* Uninstalling and reinstalling wireless adapter affect
the symtoms
* Laptop is patched to current levels

It seems like physically, the adapter is working but there
is a disconnect between it and the XP OS.

Do you have the most current drivers installed for the 1150? Can you
reinstall the XP drivers for the card?

If yes,
Open services and scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration Service, Start
the service and set it to automatic. If it does not show in the list of
Services:

run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\WZCSVC

add a DWORD entry named "Start" and
value "2"

Wireless adapter not available after XP upgrade

I tried that first, I should have listed it. As I looked
for an answer on the web and at Microsoft, there was a
reference to a similar problem using a USB wireless
adapter and coming out of standby mode. This adapter
already showed enabled and disabling and re-enabling it
did not resolve the issue.

Well that worked well. The wireless Zero Config service
was set to Manual.

Wireless adapter not available after XP upgrade
Posted: 09-10-2003, 09:45 AM
I have the same problem with a new Dell Inspiron 1100 and
it wasn't because the adapter is disabled. Everything
worked fine until I upgraded it to XP Pro... now I
get "Wireless Connection Unavailable" whenever I enable
the adapter. Seven other laptops with XP Home work fine,
but I'm afriad to upgrade them to XP Pro. Another laptop
that came with XP Pro (A ThinkPad) works fine.

I've uninstalled the adpater, re-installed it, etc. The
adapter works fine in other laptops and I've tried it
with a brand new access point. We need a detailed
troubleshooting response to fix this porblem, please.
It's got something to do with teh upgrade to XP Pro.

Thanks,
Bill
