Wireless association failure

Posted: 12-27-2007, 09:39 PM
I just bought a new dell inspiron 1520 laptop and have a wireless connection
setup in my home, all three other computers connect to the internet fine. The
laptop is finding my home network but when i try to connect an error message
reads "wireless association failed due to an unknown reason". Can anybody
help with this?

please post the text output of

ipconfig /all

run from a command prompt.

what router (model, hardware revision, and firmware version)?

do you have the latest driver for the wireless? check the Dell site.

what kind of security are you using? check to make sure the router
and the computer are configured with the same security.

I see the same thing, hp presario 700F laptop with atheros ar5007 wireless.

Any clues? I have spent hours googling and give up.
Here is ipconfig:

do you mean WRT54G? which hardware revision and what firmware and is
it the latest available firmware?

1. Make the network private
2. Turn on WPA2 or at least WPA
3. Unbind IPv6
http://digitalmediaphile.wordpress.c...windows-vista/

4. if the above does not work, try
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b/928233/en-us

what is the status after performing the above?

did you change the default SSID from Linksys to something else? If
not, please do so. Also try changing the channel on the router - use
1, 6, or 11 (whichever it is not set at)

I'm sorry, I was SURE I responded to this.

Your pointer to the DHCP variable fix in the registry did the trick!

Now works a treat.

Thanks very much,
Sarah Anderson
